Cynthia Gowens

Cynthia Gowens is a native of Akron, Ohio, the daughter of Charles and Frances Gowens.  She received her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and her masters Degree in Reading Diagnosis and Remediation from Bowling Green State University.  She formerly taught at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, and founded the Gospel Experience Choir, which was comprised of 75 Virginia Tech students.  Cynthia moved to Columbus, Ohio and worked as a teacher trainer for Head Start for several years. She is presently a reading teacher for South-Western City Schools.

Cynthia has been a composer of children's music for many years. She is known for her age-appropriate, scripture based, anointed children's music! She has written several children's musicals and skits, and has published several songbooks for children's choirs.  She has also produced an instructional video entitled Simple Signing and Singing for Children's Choirs.  Cynthia has presented her songs nationally at the Gospel Music Workshop of America each year since 1991.  Children throughout the country are singing her music!

Cynthia is a member of Faith Ministries Church, where Dr. C. Dexter Wise, III is the pastor.  At Faith Ministries, she is the director of the Children of Faith Choir.  She has been the guest clinician for children's music workshops across the country.  Cynthia is the founder and director of the annual Columbus Children's Mass Choir Workshop and Concert, and also the visionary for the Children's Music Ministry Workers Conference.

Cynthia released her second CD of her children's praise and worship music, entitled, Sing Praises to God, and is presently working on several other projects.   She has two musician sons, Mark (Ruth), and Stephen, and two beautiful and talented grand daughters, 8-year-old Amirah Joy, and  Lailah Grace, born February 23, 2009!

Many are called, but few are chosen.  Cynthia has indeed been called and chosen to write for and work with children.  God has also given her a desire to train and equip others whom He has called to work with children.  It is her prayer that her music and her message will be a blessing to the body of Christ.
